1.  Letter to Jim Coates of the Chicago Tribune has much of the information about text to speech. 

"Dear Jim:
     I am writing in regard to the Stein’s questions (June 7, 2004) about text-to-speech programs for students with reading disorders such as dyslexia.  Although you mentioned some interesting products, there are more powerful products available for both PCs and Macs that are specifically designed for use by those with learning disabilities.
